The President of the Republic Receives the Credentials of the New German Ambassador

H.E. Dr. Fuad Masum the President of the Republic received the credentials of Mr. Cyril Nun the new ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany to Iraq, at the Presidential Office Palace in Baghdad, this morning, Tuesday August 8, 2017.
At the onset of the meeting, His Excellency hailed the strength and depth of the relations between the two countries, pointing out Germany's support for Iraq in its war against the terrorist organization of ISIS and, Germany’s providing of humanitarian, economic and military aids. The President asserted the importance of Germany's contribution to reconstruction, especially to areas affected by military operations. He also confirmed the necessity of the participation of German companies in improving the infrastructure and strengthening the Iraqi economy.
President Masum stressed Iraqis’ determination to defeat terrorism once and for all and eradicate its roots, and drying up its sources of funding, as well as Iraq’s relentless quest to move forward with democratic process despite the obstacles that hinder its development and, the importance of the support of the international community in this regard. He also stressed on the need to benefit from the German experience in the field of societal reconciliation.
For his part, Mr. Cyril Nun the German ambassador stressed that he will do his utmost to develop and strengthen bilateral relations between the two friendly countries and reinforce frameworks of cooperation in various fields.
