President Salih: Iraq is Keen to Establish Effective Relations with Italy and EU Countries

President Barham Salih received Mr. Giuseppe Conte, the Italian Prime Minister and his accompanying delegation, at the Presidential Office in Baghdad, Wednesday, February 6, 2019.
His Excellency confirmed that the development and progress of relations between the two countries contribute to enhancing the horizons of joint cooperation in a manner that serves the interest of both countries. 
The President indicated that Iraq is keen to establish effective and expanded relations with Italy and the European Union countries in general.
President Salih stated that Iraq has taken a trajectory of openness in its Arab, regional and international relations after it has achieved victory over terrorism.
President Barham Salih valued Italy's participation in the international coalition against terrorism, its support for the Iraqi security forces, and its contribution to many service projects.
For his part, the Italian Prime Minister reiterated his country's support for efforts of combating terrorism and Italy's keen desire to enhance bilateral cooperation. 
Mr. Giuseppe Conte expressed his happiness to visit Iraq and commended the state of stability in the country. 
During the meeting, they discussed bilateral relations and means of developing them in the economic, trade and investment fields as well as the need for putting them into action between the two countries.
President Salih and Mr. Giuseppe Conte also conferred about the latest developments and events on the regional and international arenas.
President Barham Salih also held a luncheon in honor of the Italian Prime Minister attended by Dr. Adel Abdul Mahdi, the Prime Minister and Judge Medhat Al-Mahmoud, Head of Federal Court.
