The following is the full text:
"In the name of Allah the Merciful
Ladies and Gentlemen, Guests of Iraq and Marbid
Brothers and sisters poets, critics, and researchers, with gratitude and pride I offer you the warmest feelings as you commemorate the days of the poetry of the Marbid with the splendor of your presence and the beauty of what you are creating.
Perhaps the old saying in part of is a considerable rhetorical affirmation that says: under each palm tree in Iraq there is a poet. But Basra, with its palm trees and its Shatt, inspire us to say: that every palm tree in Basra is a poem, and in every forest of palm trees, there is poetry.
You are accompanied by the palm trees of Basra and their forests now, accompanied by poems and poetry, adding colors, creating forests of beauty and art, and pearls of speech.
These are some of the human tasks of poetry; to increase beauty in life, and to widen the horizon of freedom in it.
You are close to the Statue of al-Sayab, who is the gift of Basra to Iraq, and the gift of Iraq to the Arab and international poetry, the greatest fulfillment of this everlasting iconic poet will, the more poetry and poets are dedicated to the creative expression of the values of humanity, love, peace and coexistence amongst humans.
Poetry, as the custodian of the spiritual history of nations and peoples, deserves this responsibility and deserves to remain a guardian and custodian of human humanity and the dignity of his life on earth.
Create in what make life shines and cherishes the human being.
I wish you spring days in Basra filled with good, beauty and creativity.
My wishes through you to the sons and daughters of Basra for a permanent wellbeing and glory.
I hope that next year I will be among you in Marbid of poetry, in Basra of benevolence, love and peace.
May God save us all.
 Your brother
 Barham Salih "
