The President: Emphasis is Placed on Achieving Strategic Partnership between Iraq and the Gulf Cooperation Council


President Barham Salih received Mr. Abdullatif bin Rashid Al Zayani, the Secretary General of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) and his accompanying delegation, at the Presidential Office in Baghdad, Wednesday, April 24, 2019.
His Excellency listened to the Secretary-General's explanation about their visit to Baghdad and the prospects for cooperation between Iraq and the Gulf States as well as to consider with optimism the future of these relations and overcome the differences of the past due to the ill-considered policies of the former regime.
During the meeting, the President emphasized that the security, political, and economic circumstances in the Arab region require everyone to coordinate efforts, enhance cooperation, and converge viewpoints to attain stability and prosperity for the Arab people.
President Salih explained that Iraq is looking forward to further coordination and communication with the GCC in a belief of the importance of its Arab and regional depth, as well as its Islamic neighborhood, notably as the country has begun to recover in various fields. 
His Excellency called on Member States of the GCC for openness as well as giving priority to dialogue and understanding in order to enhance peace in the Arab Gulf and distancing it from conflicts and wars.
A memorandum of understanding was signed today between Foreign Minister Mohammed Ali al-Hakim and Mr. Abdullatif bin Rashid Al Zayani, paving the way for deepening relations between Iraq and the GCC.
