While Receiving the US Senate Delegation, the President: The National Interest Requires Enhancing Relations with the Neighboring Countries and the International Actors


President Barham Salih emphasized that Iraq is keen to establish balanced relations with the countries of the world on the basis of mutual interests.
His Excellency received a delegation representing the US Senate, at the Presidential Office in Baghdad, Thursday, April 25, 2019.
The US Senate delegation included Rep Sen. Mitt Romney and Dem Sen. Chris Murphy. The US Charge d'Affaires to Iraq Joey Hood attended the meeting too.
During a meeting, the President added that the countries of the region should realize that the stability of Iraq is a common interest.
President Salih indicated that the national interest requires strengthening relations with the neighboring countries and the international actors on the Arab and international arenas without being bias to a specific party.
His Excellency stressed the importance of developing bilateral relations and promoting ties of cooperation in various fields to serve the common interests. 
President Salih commended the United States’ role within the international coalition against terrorism and its contribution to support the Iraqi security forces, be it in arming or training.
For their part, members of the visiting delegation reiterated that the United States’ standing by Iraq and backup the country to enhance stability and peace, as well as its support for Iraq in all areas.
The meeting also reviewed the latest political updates and developments at the regional and international levels.
