Iraqi Leadership Holds Meeting with PMC Commanders

At the Presidential Offices today in Baghdad, President Salih, alongside Prime Minister Adil Abdul-Mahdi and Speaker of Parliament Mohammed al-Halbousi, met with Falih Alfayyad, the Head of the Popular Mobilization Committee (PMC) and several other PMC commanders.

Together, they stressed the heroic role played by Popular Mobilization Forces (PMF) alongside the rest of the armed forces in the battles to liberate Iraqi cities and defeat ISIS and other terrorists.

The meeting also discussed the recent attack against PMF forces, and concluded that PMF and National Defense Forces must continue their important work eliminating the remnants of ISIS and ending the risk of terrorism against both the Iraqi people as well as states around the globe.
Those in attendance agreed that these attacks are blatant, hostile acts aimed at undermining a strong and capable Iraqi government. The Government of Iraq, alongside all appropriate regional and international organizations, will continue its increasingly effective work against all groups and organizations that attempt to undermine Iraqi security, sovereignty and territory, participants added.

Attendants also emphasized the importance of staying focused on the primary and important goal of cleansing the Iraqi lands from all traces of terrrorism, and not to be preoccupied with distractions.

All agreed and emphasized that Iraq’s sovereignty and the safety of its people are the Iraqi government’s top focus, and anything that undermines these principles is considered an unequivocal red line that must not be crossed. The Iraqi government and people respect the rule of law, promote peace and prosperity for all its neighbors.
The Iraqi government will continue to assiduously defend its people against any threats foreign or domestic.
