President Receives Secretary General of Arab League Arab League


President Salih welcomed Ahmed Aboul Gheit, the Secretary General of the Arab League, and his delegation into the Presidential Office in Baghdad today.
During the extensive and wide ranging discussion, His Excellency reviewed the overall political and security situation inside Iraq and the region, noting that given the defeat of ISIS, political and security initiatives across the country are focused on consolidating their victories and establishing a permanent environment of social and political security that will allow the advancement of construction and reconstruction projects across the country.
The President emphasized that the Iraqi national view towards international and regional problems is simple: to work jointly with all neighbors and states for the advancement of peace.
Iraq will stand by any effort that will reduce regional tensions, he added.
His Excellency stressed that the Arab League plays an instrumental role in coordinating and unifying various visions among its member states to end conflict and build progress. Iraq supports all efforts that preserve the security and stability of the region and strengthen opportunities for construction, cooperation, and joint action, he added.
The Secretary General, in turn, briefed President Salih on the Arab League’s visions for the region as well as various political and economic developments, as well as the advancement of peace in the region.
Mr. Aboul Gheit lauded Iraq’s role in promoting and initiating joint Arab initiatives in ways that enhance opportunities for security and stability in the region. He emphasized the importance of enhancing security in Iraq after defeating ISIS.
Mr. Aboul Gheit also highlighted the value of victory and noted the sacrifices made by the Iraqi people to preserve security across the region.
