First Lady Receives UN FAO Rep, Discusses Agriculture and Food Security


First Lady Dr. Sarbagh Salih met Dr. Salah Hajj Hassan, the new Resident Representative of the Food and Agricultural Organization (FAO) today in Baghdad. She congratulated him on starting his new, important work in the country. 
 Dr. Sarbagh emphasized the importance of intensifying FAO's efforts to upgrade various agricultural and environmental systems across the country so that Iraq could more readily address pressing challenges in these sectors.
The First Lady stated that there was a fundamental need to enhance food security in the nation by implementing various agricultural projects across the country. It is very important to pay attention to biological diversity as well, she added. 
Dr. Sarbagh congratulated the Resident Representative of FAO in Iraq on assuming his new post, and wished him every success in performing his important work, noting the vital role FAO plays in Iraqi agricultural affairs. 
Dr. Salah Hajj Hassan, in turn, noted the First Lady’s consistently excellent support for various agricultural initiatives, and appreciated her deep care and interest in Iraq’s environment.
Dr. Sarbagh Salih and Dr. Salah Hajj Hassan also discussed desertification issues, ongoing work regarding clean drinking water for all, and the importance of empowering rural women in small-business agricultural initiatives.
