President, Meeting with Heads of Unions, Stresses the New Electoral Law will be Completed within the Week


President Salih welcomed today at the Presidential Office in Baghdad Heads and Representatives of Unions and Organizations.

In a meeting which was prevailed by a frank and open dialogue, President Salih listened to his guests and interlocutors' views regarding protest movement and its demands further to how to work on making this situation in Baghdad and a number of Governorates a key to a true and sweeping reforms of the political process and the governance's system in the country.

The President Emphasized that the tireless work ongoing in the Presidency aiming at preparing a new Draft Electoral Law will be completed and submitted to the Council of Representatives this week.

The new Bill allows for ensuring respect for the voters' views and achieving justice in competition for reaching the Council of Representatives, President highlighted.  

Furthermore, replacement of the High Electoral Commission by another which the professional footing is considered as fundamental and to be free from polarization and clientelism is also taken into account, he added.

 During the meeting, His Excellency Salih said, the peaceful character of the demonstrations, which has been devoted to genuine national values and the determination of Iraqis to overhaul political process helps to further serious action that could make Iraq and the system of government within a sound democratic framework.

Therefore, it provides the appropriate ground for eradicating corruption and starting to build, advance and raise the State, he noted.
