The President, Meeting SRSG Hennis-Plasschaert, Stresses Iraq Must not be Turned into a Battleground for Settling Regional and International Disputes


President Salih received today in Baghdad the Special Representative of the Secretary-General of the United Nations for Iraq, Ms. Jeanine Hennis-Plasschaert.
The President and Ms. Hennis-Plasschaert emphasized the need to enhance Iraq's stability, protect its sovereignty, provide the support which would help in facing the challenges and the present situation of the country, as well as preventing Iraq from being turned into a battleground by others states to settle scores, which is considered as a national priority and as a necessary for regional and international integration.
 Together, they underscored the importance of finding a peaceful solution to the current crisis by strengthening the state's institutions and adopting the reform of the management of the state's affairs as being a popular and national entitlement.    
Reference was also made to the importance of exercising restraint as well as dealing wisely with the current events.
