Iraqi President: Fight against terrorism must continue, unlicensed weapons should be controlled


On November 18, 2020, the President of Iraq, Barham Salih, met with Falih al-Fayyad, chairman of the Popular Mobilization Forces (PMF) at Al Salam Palace in Baghdad.
Both agreed that efforts by Iraqi security forces to fight terrorism and to track down remaining members of ISIS group must continue. Members of the ISIS group are try to destabilize security in some parts of Iraq, they said.

President Barham Salih:
“We have to prioritize the country's security and stability. That includes sustaining achievements against terrorism and improving the regulation of unlicensed and uncontrolled weapons in the country. We must focus on peace in our society and the maintenance of public security.”
In the meeting, it was stressed that it was essential to strengthen the authority of the Iraqi state and its security services, in order to protect Iraqi citizens.
