Iraq's President Barham Salih receives delegation from Sadrist movement’s political wing: Safety, peace and security in communities most important, as well as support for strong state and strong security forces


On Saturday, November 28, 2020, the President of the Republic of Iraq, Barham Salih, met a delegation from the Sadrist movement's political wing, headed by Nassar al-Rubaie. The meeting took place today at the Peace Palace in Baghdad. 
During the meeting, participants talked about the latest political, economic and security-related developments in Iraq. Participants agreed upon the importance of upcoming elections and the need to ensure that these were conducted with integrity and full transparency, without any fraud or manipulation, so that Iraqi voters' confidence in the democratic process could be restored. 
Those at the meeting also spoke about how important it was to ensure the safety and security of all Iraqi citizens, to meet their needs and to protect peace in communities. They also agreed that it was imperative to strengthen the authority of the state and to support Iraqi security forces and law enforcement.  
President Salih and the delegation from the Sadrist movement's political wing also talked about the Iraqi economy and the crisis caused by the COVID-19 pandemic and a drop in global oil prices. They discussed what measures were needed to face these economic challenges, including tools to further fight corruption and also to diversify the state's resources.
