Iraqi President Meets Lahore Sheikh Genki, and the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan Delegation

On Thursday, January 14, 2021, President of the Republic of Iraq, Barham Salih, met with the Co-Leader of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan, Mr. Lahore Sheikh Genki, and Delegation from the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan's Bloc. The meeting was held at Al-Salam Palace in Baghdad.
Latest political developments related- Iraqi matters were discussed. The meeting participants discussed how best to find common ground between the Federal and the KRG and where there could be further dialogue on issues of common interest that could meet people's demands. They agreed it is important to keep in mind that people's livelihoods must not be affected by the current political differences in Iraq. Sustainable solution has to be found between the two governments, they said, this should include reaching agreement on the general budget and settling the issue of paying the public sectors salaries that are guaranteed by the Iraqi constitution.
The meeting placed emphasis on the need to have further cooperation and coordination between the institutions of the Federal Government and the institutions of the KRG.
 It has been stressed how important it was to reach a common vision, thereby serving our country's interest as well as strengthening stability and meeting Iraqi people's demands to live a life of freedom and dignity.
