Iraqi President: Yazidi Displaced Persons Must Be Allowed to Return Home, and Rebuilding of Sinjar to Be Made


On Wednesday, April 7, 2021, the President of the Republic of Iraq, Barham Salih received a delegation from the Yazidi Council of Sinjar. The meeting took place at Al-Salam Palace in Baghdad.
During the meeting, recent developments in politics and humanitarian services related- the situations in Sinjar in addition to the challenges that the ordinary people face there, were discussed. Talks focused on the need to take the necessary measures which would bring security and stability in the city.
It is important to ensure the voluntary, safe and dignified return of Yazidi displaced persons and migrants who were forced to leave their home, said President Salih.  It was necessary, so that political and administrative obstacles, which hinder redressing for the victims' families, must be overcome while the reorganization of the Sinjar administration should be in the line with the will of the population there, added the President.  He continued said that Sinjar should be away from political rivalries, and rebuilding should be made there. We have to promote security and stability, and work to deliver better services as well as providing people there with material assistance, he said.
The visiting delegation thanked to Iraqi President Salih for his persistent follow up and closely monitoring the issues of Yazidi people. The members of the delegation hailed the President's role in the approval of the Yazidi Female Survivors Law to redress the victims and his emphasis on the need to implement the law as soon as possible.
