On Thursday, April 8, 2021, the President of the Republic of Iraq, Braham Salih met with the Head of "Iraqiun" Coalition, Ammar Al-Hakim.
During the meeting, recent developments in politics, the economy and in security-related matters in Iraq were discussed.
Talks focused on the need to promote stability in the country, with exerting further efforts that aim to strengthen the rule of law.
Participants at the meeting emphasized how important it was to support the path of the reform in the country, and work towards strengthening the social fabric among different Iraqi segments, where there could be further dialogue to this end. They also agreed that measures must continue to be taken to protect the lives of citizens and their property and to secure and stable the situation in Iraq.
The importance of upcoming elections and the need to ensure optimal conditions for a secure and transparent vote were discussed.
Elections must be free and fair, and there can be no suspicion of fraud, manipulation or pressure on voters, the two sides agreed. They do believe that it is only in this way that we can restore people's confidences in the ballot process and encourage a large turnout at the election.
