President Salih: We have challenges that urgently need to be meet in the fairness of women and ensuring their full rights, and the world is watching to see conducting October elections that must produce strong authorities based on the will of Iraqis

While delivering a speech on Saturday, September 11, 2021, on the 13th International conferences on violence against women, His Excellency the President of the Republic of Iraq, Barham Salih said that enormous social and legislative challenges are still ahead of us so it's vital to address these challenges and work towards ensuring the fairness for Women as well as ensuring their fully rights. The acts of discrimination and violence against women which Iraqi Women had been subjected over the past years, and the most heinous violations and crimes committed by ISIS against the Yazidi women and girls, Turkmens Shia women and Women of other Iraqi components remind us to address the challenges ahead.
Great tasks represented by holding the country's next federal elections must be met, the President said, while the World is looking forward to it. He underscored that the election should be a staging point for building legislative and executive powers that are able to make the reforms, address the flaws in the political process, and these include the corruption, plundering the country's wealth, disruption of the projects and the shortage of services.
Furthermore, it was vital that optimal conditions for the country’s next elections be ensured, and elections must be free and fair, he said, and voters will ensure that they are able to cast their ballots in safety to choose their representatives. Political system in Iraq and the governance system need structural reforms, and the only way to do that is by having free, fair and transparent elections and improving our political system, he added.
The Iraqi President added that Iraq's position at the regional and international levels was not what it had been for years, noting that the Baghdad Conference for Cooperation and Partnership had been a sign for Iraq's pivotal and important role in the region as it was also a sign for emphasizing Iraq's sovereignty and independence.
Moreover, he stressed that Iraqi Armed Forces of every kind, Army, Police, PMF and Peshmerga are able to combat terrorism in Iraq and to pursue cells of the extremist group known as the Islamic State.
