Iraqi President Salih: Iraq Looks Forward to Having Further Int'l Support to Make Domestic Economic Reform and Support Investment and Private-Sector


On Wednesday, November 24, 2021, the President of the Republic of Iraq, Barham Salih met with the head of the Iraqi-British Business Council(IBBC), Emma Nicholson, Baroness of Winterbourne. The meeting was held at al-Salam Palace in Baghdad.
Iraqi-British relations were discussed during the meeting, and how best to promote these ties at every level, with focus on the need to develop economic and trade cooperation between the two States as well as working towards encouraging investment in Iraq.
President Salih and Emma Nicholson emphasized how important the Conference " Together We Build Iraq" organized by the IBBC would be for Iraq. Governmental and official persons, companies and businessmen of both sides attended the conference.
Iraq is looking forward to receiving further support and cooperation from the international community in order to strengthen the economy and undertake the necessary reforms in both financial and economic areas, Iraqi President Salih said.
This included the support of investment and the private-sector, he added, and to do so we have to set up national reform plans and lay the ground for increasing the economic interdependence in the region, with focus on the need to ease political tensions there.
