President Rashid: High Priority Must Be Given to Tackling Water Scarcity, while Realistic Solutions Have to Be Found
The issue of water scarcity in the country must be given
high priority, President Rashid emphasized while saying that public opinion must
be alerted to its ramifications. It is vital to move ahead to find appropriate
and realistic solutions to this issue, he added.
On Friday, November 4, 2022, President of the Republic of
Jamal Rashid addressed " Bahr Al-Olom Forum for Dialogue" as a part
of serious activities of the " Iraq's Thirsty"
President Rashid's Speech follows:
" In the name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the
Most Merciful,
Dear, Mr. Ibrahim Bahr Al-Olom,
Ladies and Gentlemen,
Peace, Mercy, and Blessings of Allah be
upon you,
Good morning,
I have great pleasure in extending my
warmest congratulations to all the staff of the " Bahr
Al-Olom Forum for Dialogue" for their
tireless efforts to alert public opinion for the ramifications of water
scarcity that has plagued Iraq and become a matter of concern for all the
Iraqis. And for providing practical proposals aiming to find an appropriate and
realistic solution to this issue of water scarcity.
I also thank United Nations Development Programme(UNDP|)
for their effective role in this important field, in realizing the importance
of water security for the life of people.
I thank Iraq's government for its interest and care in
this area, in particular, the Ministry of Water Resources and the Ministry of
Environment.
Although I am very busy as all of you know, I
am attending this important event because it is my top priority. Participation
in this Forum is essential to give the subject the great significance that it
deserves. And it is also to urge those concerned with water affairs to make
every possible effort to find a solution for Iraq's long-standing problem.
I gave the Brother, Dr. Bahr al-Olom a
few articles and some information, some documentation as I briefed him on my
whole conception of developing water resources management and improving water
status in Iraq.
Ultimately, I wish the Forum all the best and every
success. Personally, I am ready, and the Presidency of the Republic and its
staff are willing to support all the activities on sustainable water management
and helping in the management of water scarcity in Iraq, and we hope to do so.
I am quite sure, that the Ministry of Water Resources has
a series of recommendations and concrete projects to improve the water status
in Iraq.
Thank you".
