President Rashid, President Nechirvan Barzani Affirm the Need to Intensify Efforts to Maintain the Country' Stability and Sovereignty


On Tuesday, November 22, 2022, the President of the Republic of Iraq, Abdullatif Jamal Rashid met with the President of the Kurdistan Region, Nechirvan Barzani alongside his delegation. The meeting took place at Baghdad Palace.

 President Rashid and President Barzani reviewed the internally displaced people issues and the difficult living conditions faced by the inhabitants of the displaced camps. How important it was to work together to improve their living conditions, Both leaders agreed, while it is vital to step up our collective efforts to ensure a safe and stable return of the displaced persons to their villages, towns, and cities, they asserted.

Recent developments in politics, security and the economy related-matters in Iraq were discussed during the meeting, and the discussion focused on the need to support steps taken by the Federal Government to implement its program that aims to meet Iraqi people's needs and improve their living and service conditions.

  In a related context, ties with the neighbors were reviewed. At the same time, the meeting emphasized the need for these relationships to be built on mutual respect and common interest. It has been stressed that our collective efforts should be stepped up to maintain Iraq's stability and sovereignty.

Concerning counter-terrorism efforts and confronting the criminal gangs of Daesh, the two leaders shared the same views about the importance of joint cooperation and coordination among all security forces to eliminate the hotbeds of terrorism and dry up its resources, so as to save the citizens' lives and protect their property and their rights.

Concerning outstanding issues between the Federal Government and the KRG, President Rashid and the President of the Kurdistan Region agreed that long unresolved issues between the two governments need to be worked out through positive dialogue while pending laws should be quickly approved by the Iraqi Parliament. They underlined that the solutions should be found, according to the Iraqi Constitution and law, so as to achieve social justice, and equality and meet the needs of Iraqi people of all backgrounds.
