President Rashid Meets NATO Mission IRAQ Commander


On Thursday, November 24, 2022, the President of the Republic of Iraq, Abdullatif Jamal Rashid met with the Commander of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) Mission in Iraq, Lieutenant General Giovanni Iannucci. The meeting was held at Baghdad Palace.

The missions being carried out in Iraq by NATO were reviewed during the meeting, and these are in terms of providing military advice, training Iraqi armed forces, strengthening their military capabilities, and raising the level of professionalism and efficiency, in ways that contribute to supporting Iraq's efforts to combat the terrorism and eliminate its hotbeds.

 Extremism and terrorism is a dangerous phenomenon that threatens the world as a whole, His Excellency President stressed, while going on to note that, the Iraqi armed forces of all kinds had managed to defeat terrorism and its insidious scheme as they keep going to chase some remaining cell of this criminal groups to prevent them from undermining security in some parts of Iraq and from threatening Iraqi citizens' lives and the safety and stability of their towns.

 Cooperation with NATO in terms of strengthening the Iraqi armed forces' capabilities how important would be for Iraq, His Excellency President Rashid pointed out, as it is the best way to reach Iraq's mission of eradicating terrorism so the training and advising mission should be covered all the parts of Iraq.

Lieutenant General, Iannucci expressed NATO's eagerness to boost relations of cooperation with Iraq in terms of training, advising, sharing information, and intelligence efforts, so as to enhance the capacities of Iraqi armed forces of all kinds.
