Iraqi President Meets Jordan’s Parliament Speaker
On Wednesday, January 11, 2023, the
President of the Republic of Iraq, Abdullatif Jamal Rashid met with the Speaker
of the Jordanian Parliament, Ahmed Al-Safadi, accompanied by a parliamentary
delegation, at the Baghdad Palace.
The good relations between Iraq and Jordan
were discussed during the meeting including the need to further enhance them in
both nations' interests.
The well-established relations between Iraq
and Jordan are a point of pride and honour, His Excellency President Rashid
said, while adding that these bilateral relations serve common interests. Iraq
stands ready to provide the assistance that the Jordanian people need, HE
asserted while referring to cooperation in political, economic, education, and
health sectors as pivotal to achieving mutual interests.
Additionally, HE, hailed Jordan's
supportive stance by the people of Iraq, and it is vital to maintain the joint
coordination between the two countries, he continued to say, we can take
advantage of the friendly relations between Iraq and Jordan to pave the way
towards peace, security, and stability in the region and joining hands against
our common enemy, which is terrorism and extremism.
The President spoke about the prevailing
security, political and economic stability in Iraq that help attract foreign
investments and reinvigorate the private sector. The Iraqi government is
working on ensuring better public services for its citizens, HE added.
The visiting delegation conveyed greetings
from the Jordanian Monarch, King Abdullah II to President Rashid, and that His
Majesty takes pride in the relations with Iraq. Furthermore, His Majesty is
keen to maintain good relations with Iraq and emphasised the importance of
supporting Iraq and its people. The Iraqi President reciprocated, asking the
Jordanian Speaker to convey his greetings to His Majesty King Abdulla II in
turn, wishing him good health and all success and to all the Jordanian, wishing
them progress and prosperity.
Jordan looks forward to further cooperation
with Iraq on subjects from across the spectrum, particularly in fostering
economic growth, the delegation stressed while emphasising Iraq’s key role in
defeating the criminal gangs of Daesh and the war on terrorism on behalf of the
world.
