President Rashid Meets Iraqi National Football Team

On Tuesday, January 24, 2023, the President of the Republic of Iraq, Abdullatif Jamal Rashid met with the Iraqi National Football Team who won the 25th Edition of the Arabian Gulf Cup in Basra, at Baghdad Palace.

President Rashid congratulated the National Football Team on winning the Arab Gulf 25th tournament and pointed out that all the Iraqis are proud of them for this historical win, that they brought happiness to the hearts of all the people, they are role models for the youth.

His Excellency hailed the efforts made by all relevant agencies, including the efforts made by the local population in Basra, the officials and the personnel staff of the local government departments, the relevant Ministries, the Iraqi Football Association, and the large crowd of Iraqi fans, contributing to the success of the tournament.

Basra and its population presented a great image of generosity and hospitality to the Arab Gulf fans and the participating delegations, The President noted, while wishing that this tournament would serve as a good omen for Iraq to host many more sporting events.

Sports in Iraq are needed to be supported and promoted, President Rashid stressed while youth and talented persons should be supported. Iraqi people of all backgrounds embrace athletes who through hard work, raise the flag of Iraq at international events, and win the tournaments, HE, noted. The Presidency of the Republic is everyone's home, and it stands ready to provide the necessary support that aims to improve the National Football Team and Iraqi Football Association, he added.

The members of the Iraqi National Football Team, the head of the Iraqi Football Association, Mr. Adnan Darjal, and the Basra Governor, Asaad Al-Eidani expressed their gratitude to His Excellency President Rashid for the warm reception and for coming to Basra to support the Iraqi National Team.
