The President Meets Islamic Religious Scholars Delegation

On Tuesday, January 24, 2023, the President of the Republic of Iraq, Abdullatif Jamal Rashid met with a delegation from the Islamic Religious Scholars of Kurdistan, at the Baghdad Palace.

His Excellency President Rashid emphasised the key role played by religious scholars in promoting peaceful coexistence and social cohesion among Iraqi people of all backgrounds. There is a need to adopt moderate rhetoric, and support dialogue and communication among all, based on respect and protection of Iraq's diverse communities, he asserted.

The President noted that the country had experienced difficult circumstances over the past decades, especially terrorism affected many cities. Extremism and terrorism were defeated by unifying all the components of the Iraqi society and the heroic sacrifices made by the Iraqi armed forces in all their formations, he added.

His Excellency referred to the necessity of consolidating the security and stability that have been attained in the country, providing the opportunity to enhance all the sectors and ensure that the basic needs of citizens are met.

The visiting delegation thanked President Rashid for the warm reception, haling his proposals, and his efforts towards promoting social cohesion among all the components of Iraqi society and spreading the spirit of love and peace.
