President Rashid’s Message on the 35th Anniversary of the Halabja Massacre
To our beloved people of Halabja,
To the sons, daughters, and families of the martyrs,
As we commemorate the 35th anniversary of the Halabja
massacre, I express my deepest sympathy with the victims, who lost their lives
because of the most terrifying crimes committed against the population, using
chemical weapons.
We reaffirm our commitment to remain loyal and faithful
to the great sacrifices of Halabja martyrs and stand ready to help our beloved
Halabja city heal its wounds.
On this occasion, and recognition of Halabja’s
governorate status by the federal government, I congratulate the population of
Halabja.
Meanwhile, I call upon the Kurdistan Regional Government,
the Kurdistan Parliament, and political parties to combine efforts towards the
completion of the legal procedures in this regard, and address the shortcomings
in the administration of Halabja city, make it a model city for progress,
prosperity and well-being of the population.
Recalling the tragic events taking place in Halabja
pushes us to move ahead toward serving the Halabja and the victims' families to
the best of our abilities, helping heal the wounds and address the devastation.
Glory to the Martyrs of Halabja,
The President of the Republic of Iraq,
Abdullatif Jamal Rashid.
