President Rashid Meets Italian Ambassador to Iraq, Maurizio Greganti
On Tuesday, May 23, 2023, the President of
the Republic of Iraq, Abdullatif Jamal Rashid met with Italy's Ambassador to
Iraq, Mr. Maurizio Greganti, at the Baghdad Palace.
At the outset
of the meeting, His Excellency President Rashid offered condolences to the
government and the people of Italy over the floods hitting the area of
Bologna.
President
Rashid emphasized Iraq's eagerness to further develop bilateral relations with
Italy, particularly in political, commercial and scientific fields, focusing on
the need to work toward underpinning further cooperation, that would most serve
both nations' ties.
His Excellency
underscored the significance of continued international efforts and cooperation
between both states in the combat of terrorism and sharing expertise on
addressing climate change.
Italy's role
in standing with Iraq in the fight against terrorism and its efforts to provide
humanitarian assistance was commended by the President.
Italian
Ambassador, Mr. Greganti underlined his country's desire further to promote
relations of friendship and cooperation with Iraq. In addition, he added that
Iraq's situation, which is marked by security and political stability, will
reflect positively on encouraging international investment, for further progress
and prosperity.
The preparations for a state visit, set to pay by His Excellency
President Rashid to Italy were discussed during the meeting.
Iraqi President had received an official invitation from his Italian
counterpart to pay a state visit to Italy. The visit is considered the first state visit
of an Iraqi President to Italy.
