The President of the Republic Receives the US Ambassador

H.E. Dr. Fuad Masum the President of the Republic received Mr. Douglas Silliman the US Ambassador to Iraq, at the Presidential Office, in Baghdad, today, Monday December 4, 2017.
During the meeting, they discussed the political and security developments in Iraq and the region, notably the crisis between Erbil and Baghdad as well as the bilateral relations between Iraq and the United States of America and means to strengthen them in all fields.
President Masum emphasized his continued efforts to launch a constructive dialogue among countries of the region, and also among all Iraqis to develop realistic and strategic solutions that would contribute to the elimination of tension, support stability, eradicate terrorism, launch projects for the return of displaced people, reconstruction and gain international support. The President stressed on the importance of intensifying and maintaining efforts to preserve national cohesion and civil coexistence among all spectra of the people.
For his part, Ambassador Silliman reiterated the United States' keenness to support Iraq and help in facing the challenges that stand in the way of developing the political process, confirming his country's respect for the rights and aspirations of all components of the Iraqi people within the framework of a unified, stable and prosperous Iraq. He also commended the perseverant efforts made by the President of the Republic to continue the constructive internal dialogue.
